Ok, this is the first time I'm translating a brazillian song to english, I've choosen this one, not for any favoritism, nor for being the best song I've ever heard, but because there's a triple wordplay in the chorus and I've figured a way to actually translate it and keep its original sense.
The portuguese version has a triple word play with "Rosas", that means "roses", the flower, "pinks" and "Roses", the many women named "Rose". Since "pink" is just a little bit different from "rose", I had to find another flower that can be a female name and a collor (Or anything else that could fit in, really) to keep the word play throughout the song. For that task, I've chosen "Violet", great, isn't it? Don't ask me why "pink" in portuguese is the same name as the flower who's commonly found in red, white and yellow. I mean, there are pink roses, but we normally see them as red, so much that we say "rosa rosa" to express that that rose is, in fact, pink (Or "rosa cor-de-rosa", "rose with a rose/pink collor"). Then we laugh our butts off to our wacky language kinks.
About Ana Carolina, she's a great singer with a lot of romantic songs, most are pretty memorable. She is bissexual and this information is crutial to understand this song, as she says, in the chorus: "Because I like pinks, roses (The flower) and Roses (The women)", in subtext, saying that she likes women. A lot of people didn't get that message back then and it was subtle enough so many crazies with prejudice wouldn't even figure it out. In fact, I had to explain this to my mother, who knew about the singer's sexuality, but not about this part of the song.
When translating to portuguese, I normally do two types of translation, one is a more literal, with the meaning of the song, careless whether or not it fits in the song's tempo, and another one that you can (try to) sing along on the rhythm, or, at least, it will be easier to. Both try to keep as much of the original lyrics as possible, just translating them. I'll use the same formula in this case.
With no further ado, the translation:
Literal translation:
You can look at me any way you like
I won't make efforts to prove you wrong
From a thousand ways I can be
I'm sure at least one will please you
You can look at me any way you like
I won't make efforts to prove you wrong
In thousands of ways that I can be
I'm sure at least one will please you
Because I'm made for love from head to toe
And I do nothing but give myself
If I caused you any pain, it wasn't my intention
It wasn't ever my intention to hurt you
Because I like violets and violets and Violets
Coupled with a note, they make me nervous
Every woman likes violets and violets and Violets
Many times they are red, but they're always violets
If we, maybe, don't match with eachother
I go back my own way, nothing to say
Half the blame, each one takes care of their own life
If it's just a scratch, I won't even blow on it (Or "I won't even care")
Because I'm made for love from head to toe
And I do nothing but give myself
If I caused you any pain, it wasn't my intention
It wasn't ever my intention to hurt you
Because I like violets and violets and Violets
Coupled with a note, they make me nervous
Every woman likes violets and violets and Violets
Many times they are red, but they're always violets
Because I like violets and violets and Violets
Coupled with a note, they make me nervous
Every woman likes violets and violets and Violets
Many times they are red, but they're always violets
You can look at me any way you like
I won't make efforts to prove you wrong
From a thousand ways I can be
I'm sure at least one will please you
"To sing" translation:
You can see me any way you like
I won't make efforts to contradict you
From a thousand ways that I can ever be
I'm sure at least one will please you
You can see me any way you like
I won't make efforts to contradict you
From a thousand ways that I can ever be
I'm sure at least one will please you
Because I'm made for love from head to toe
And I do nothing other than give myself
If I caused you any pain, it wasn't on purpose
It wasn't my intention to hurt you
Because I like violets and violets and Violets
Coupled with a note, they make me nervous
Every woman likes violets and violets and Violets
Many times they are red, but they're always violets
If we, maybe, don't match at all
I go back my own way, nothing to say
Half the blame, each one takes care of their own
If it's just a scratch, I won't even care
Because I'm made for love from head to toe
And I do nothing other than give myself
If I caused you any pain, it wasn't on purpose
It wasn't my intention to hurt you
Because I like violets and violets and Violets
Coupled with a note, they make me nervous
Every woman likes violets and violets and Violets
Many times they are red, but they're always violets
Because I like violets and violets and Violets
Coupled with a note, they make me nervous
Every woman likes violets and violets and Violets
Many times they are red, but they're always violets
You can see me any way you like
I won't make efforts to contradict you
From a thousand ways that I can ever be
I'm sure at least one will please you
